ROOTS OF MODERN ATHEISM

·

·     Contemporary unbelief - either in the form of indifference, agnosticism, or full blown resistance to theism - is a pervasive factor in our culture.  Where does it come from - intellectually and culturally?

·     Is our religion just a projection of human values into a transcendent realm? Is atheism an inside job generated by theists?

·     Exploring an important strand in British culture - which derives from George Eliot - who takes religious language about God to be a metaphor for the human search for the Good. Tackling the roots of modern atheism in ways that might help our Christian mission today.
