• 1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives. Each week in the UK, 2 women are killed by a partner or ex-partner. 1 in 40 elderly people experience mistreatment from a relative, friend or care-worker. Men are not excluded from being victims of domestic abuse.
• No matter what sort of parish a priest finds himself working in, domestic abuse will be occurring behind the doors of the homes of some of his parishioners.
• This day will define domestic abuse – both in pastoral and legal terms - and explore the implications of such abuse for the victims, and the extended victims (family, friends, parishioners etc). What help is available for victims of domestic abuse – and what practical pastoral assistance can a priest and a parish offer?
